About
Hippos are surprisingly fast despite their bulky appearance. How fast can a hippo run? On land, they can reach speeds of up to 19 miles per hour (30 kilometers per hour) over short distances. Although they're not as agile as some other animals, their powerful legs can propel them swiftly when needed, especially in emergencies or when defending their territory. However, they're much more comfortable and agile in water, where they can move gracefully and swiftly. Despite their speed, it's essential to give hippos plenty of space and respect their territory, as they can be territorial and aggressive if provoked.
